Lesley earned her Master of Landscape Architecture at the University of Greenwich in London, a city in which she lived and worked for over a decade prior to joining Nelson Byrd Woltz’s New York office in 2019. She combines an interest in designing for the physical, embodied experience of landscapes with deep botanical and horticultural knowledge, having also gained a Diploma in Practical Horticulture from London’s English Gardening School.
Lesley’s work is shaped by a diverse background, including a prior career in graphic design, training in dance, and rich immersion in the British landscape and garden tradition. She has previously worked for Gustafson Porter + Bowman in London and DLANDstudio in Brooklyn, as well as holding the position of Creative Director at a leading UK corporate communications practice where she developed fluency in creative storytelling. Lesley continues to exercise this voice as an occasional writer contributing to Landscape Architecture Magazine.
Previous project experience includes International Quarter London, Chelsea Barracks in London, the QueensWay in Queens, New York, as well as the University of Colorado Boulder. Recent work at NBW includes Vassar College Inn & Institute, Phase 1 of Mount Cuba Center Botanical Gardens, and masterplanning for Berkshire Botanical Garden.
