The Municipal Art Society of New York has invited Thomas Woltz to serve on the 10th annual MASterworks Awards jury. These awards celebrate provocative, innovative, contemporary architecture and design that enrich New York City’s built environment. October 22, 2009 Warren Byrd was honored as a Bracken Fellow by Penn State University’s Department of Landscape Architecture. He delivered one of this year’s Bracken Lectures entitled “Cienegaic Landscapes: the recent work of Nelson Byrd Woltz.” October 23-25, 2009 Warren Byrd presented a position paper at Penn State’s Department of Architecture Symposium “Environmentally Conscious Design – Educating Future Architects" (.pdf download). October 28-29, 2009 The Charles F. Gillette Forum at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, Richmond, VA. Thomas Woltz delivered one of the keynote addresses entitled “Narratives of Ecology in Public and Private Contemporary Design.” November 12, 2009 St. Louis Earth Day Symposium ‘Eco-nomics: Economy and Ecology.' Warren Byrd delivered the keynote address ‘Creating Sustainable Places’. September 18 – 21, 2009, ASLA Annual Meeting & Expo in Chicago; partners Warren Byrd and Thomas Woltz participated in forums. July 1, 2009 - Citygarden, a three-acre public sculpture garden designed by Nelson Byrd Woltz in the heart of St. Louis, Missouri, opened to the public. 2009 National ASLA Awards Program – one Honor Award for The Dell at the University of Virginia. "Brava! In an era of environmental clichés, this project is truly original. We love the context of its location at one of the best landscape architecture schools in the world. The geometry and curvature make it romantic and rich. It works well in all four seasons. When you’re in college, you’re looking for these kinds of places." — 2009 Professional Awards Jury 2009 Virginia ASLA Awards Program - three Honor Awards (Tupelo Farm, Nick’s Head Master Plan, Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden Hydrologic Master Plan), two Merit Awards (Western Albemarle Garden, The Homestead), and one Award of Excellence (Charles Luck Stone Center). The Award of Excellence has been given only once before. 2009 National ASLA Student Awards – Warren Byrd served as Chair of this year’s jury, the third year in a row to serve on a national ASLA awards jury. |
