STAFF DESIGNER:

The Charlottesville, VA office of Nelson Byrd Woltz is seeking a Staff Designer with three to five years of professional experience.  We are committed to design excellence in the creation of landscapes that are sustainable and honor ecological and cultural contexts of place.   The broad knowledge base and diverse backgrounds of our staff contributes greatly to the firm’s ability to work on a diverse range of projects and to respond effectively to individual client needs.

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong design and graphic production skills including hand drawing and rendering.  Candidates should have a full range of project experience from conceptual design through construction administration.  Candidates must be detail oriented; efficient; adaptable to changing deadlines and priorities; and able work well as part of a team.  Designers are expected to think critically and contribute creatively to the design process.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

>MLA or M.Arch desired; BSLA/BLA or related degrees will be considered based on experience and design strength

>Three (3) years minimum of applicable experience in a professional setting

>Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD and MS Office required

>Ability to construct and administer CAD drawings in accordance with office standards

>Strong oral, written and graphic communication skills

>Excellent time-management and organizational skills

>Ability to self-edit work and command a high level of accuracy

>Working knowledge of 3-D modeling programs (preferred)

>Project management experience (desired)

>LEED Certification (desired)

 

Additional Information:
Hours are typically 8:30am-6:00pm Monday through Friday; 42.5 hours per week minimum.  Some travel, site visits, and overnight trips may be required.  Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US.  NBW offers a competitive salary and excellent benefits.  EOE.

GRAPHIC/ WEB DESIGNER

Nelson Byrd Woltz is seeking an innovative graphic artist with a passion for design to be part of a collaborative effort to develop and refine materials for print and electronic media. The Designer will work directly with the Marketing Manager to hone a consistent visual language that is reflective of the firm's design values and help maintain that consistency throughout the firm's website, marketing, presentation and lecture materials.

 

On a daily basis the Graphic/Web Designer is expected to create and/or edit images, audio-visual components, and other material for web and print distribution; integrate video content to the website; organize and maintain digital files and images; and maintain and update NBW's existing website. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills are required. Interest or experience in landscape architecture or architecture would be beneficial to the position. An initial goal for the Designer is to participate in the completion of a monograph of the firm's design work to be published by Princeton Architectural Press in the spring of 2012.

 

Requirements:

    > Undergraduate or graduate degree in graphic design or related discipline

> At least 3 years of applicable experience in a professional setting

> Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office Suite, and website development tools (CSS, HTML, JavaScript, Dreamweaver, Flash)

> Rigorous attention to detail

> Ability to prioritize and meet concurrent deadlines

> Remain up-to-date with graphic design practices and software

> Some digital photography and videography experience desired

> CAD, 3-D modeling or GIS software knowledge a plus but not required
